Apple ID security and other tasks

If you are concerned that your password is compromised and want to change it, go to Apple ID ❯ Sign-In and Security ❯ Change Password, enter a new password twice. Don’t forget to update the Apple ID page in the Tomtie Toolkit. If ‘Stolen Device Protection’ is turned on there may be a one hour security delay before this can be done

Turn this ON in iPhone/iPad in Settings ❯ Apple ID ❯ iCloud ❯ Keychain. For MacBook/iMac/Mac Mini, go to System Settings ❯ Your name – Apple ID ❯ iCloud ❯ ‘Passwords & Keychain’ and turn on the ‘Sync this Mac’ switch. Once turned on, iPhone/iPad apps and Safari will save new passwords into ‘iCloud Keychain’. This means they will be stored remotely and autofilled when you need them to sign into an account. Tip! See your passwords on your iPhone/iPad in Settings ❯ Passwords. See your passwords on your Mac in Safari ❯ Safari Settings ❯ Passwords

If your iPhone is stolen when you are away from home you may wish to buy a new iPhone and set it up. In order to sign-in to your Apple ID on a new iPhone, a 6 digit verification code is sent to your Apple devices or to a phone number. If you do not have access to one of your other apple devices, it is important to have a friends number to receive the code. Go to ‘EMAIL & PHONE NUMBERS’ ❯ Edit ❯ Add email or phone number and add a close contacts phone number. They will need to verify their number

Set up ‘Account Recovery’ in case you lose access to your account by forgetting your passcodes. If ‘Stolen Device Protection’ is turned on there may be a one hour security delay before this can be done

Set up a ‘Legacy Contact’ so someone you trust will have access to your account after your death

If you are concerned that you are being tracked or stalked this is a safe way to take control of your privacy from your iPhone (if you are observed, just tap ‘Quick Exit’ top right and Settings will be closed). It is also a good way to familiarise yourself with the important choices available to you. Go to Settings ❯ Privacy & Security ❯ then swipe or scroll down to ‘Safety Check’. Open ‘Manage Sharing & Access’ and go through the three key areas of ‘Review People’, ‘Review Apps’ and ‘Account Security’

Set up in Settings ❯ Apple ID ❯ iCloud ❯ ‘Share with Family’
