Set up New Outlook (was Mail)

How New Outlook (Mail Client) works with your email account servers: Adding an email account to the New Outlook app means that your email server folders sync to the app and you benefit from all the great features that the client app gives you (for email, contacts and calendar) compared to using webmail. If you have a Microsoft account (outlook/live or hotmail) you also benefit from having your contact and calendar servers sync as they use ‘Microsoft Exchange’

Introduction to New Outlook (replacing old Mail app): Go to the link to New Outlook (replacing old Mail app) for Windows in the Tomtie website Tutorials and Training option in Quick links. The areas to get to know are – The vertical bar on the left shows the different applications of Calendar, People, Groups and more. The folder/navigation pane is on the left with emails to the right. The Reading pane (if wanted) can either be on the right or below emails – see Layout to set this. The Ribbon with useful options is above the emails and at the very top is the Search box

Add an email account to New Outlook (replacing old Mail app): Go to Settings ❯ + Add account and enter the type of account then the email address and password

Change Options in New Outlook (replacing old Mail app) to make it easy to use: To set the language, date and time settings go to – Settings ❯ General ❯ Language and time – set the language to English (United Kingdom) and the date 01/09/2024 then the time format as desired. (Spelling and autocomplete suggestions are automatically added in)

Set a default font for new email in New Outlook (replacing old Mail app): Open Settings ❯ Email ❯ Compose and reply, scroll through the options, select the font and font size when using HTML

Set a signature for outgoing email in New Outlook (replacing old Mail app): Open Settings ❯ Accounts ❯ Signatures. Click + ‘New signature’ and give the signature a name. Click on the name in the ‘Select signature to edit’ box, then add text and formatting and click Save. In ‘Select default signatures’ make sure to have the signature name in New messages and Replies/forwards and click ‘Save’

Display external images in incoming email in New Outlook (replacing old Mail app): When the email is from a trusted company you can add them to the Safe Senders list. Click in the text above the email and select ‘I trust content from name@domain.com’
