Set up new printer-scanner

Prepare area: open box, remove contents and packaging tape. Read through instructions and follow them. i.e. Connect printer to power, add cartridges. Add details to Tomtie Toolkit

Connect to a Wifi router: navigate to WiFi and there will be the option to use a ‘WiFi wizard’ where you select the network name then manually enter the router password to connect to it. ‘Push Button Setup WPS is an easier option as you don’t enter the password. WPS stands for Wi-Fi Protected Setup. Select ‘Push Button Setup/WPS’ ❯ start, press the WPS button on the router and wait as it searches for compatible devices and finds the printer. If this doesn’t happen easily go back to the wizard and add the password

Connect printer to Windows 11 PC via WiFi: Once the printer is connected to WiFi it will be visible to the PC. Go to Settings ❯ Bluetooth and Devices ❯ Printers and scanners ❯ Add device – search for printers then click on the new one

Connect printer to Windows 10 PC via WiFi: Once the printer is connected to WiFi it will be visible to the PC. Go to Settings ❯ Devices ❯ Printers and scanners ❯ Add a printer or scanner – search for printers then click on the new one

Connect printer to a Mac computer via WiFi: Once the printer is connected to WiFi it will be visible to the Mac. Go to System Settings/System Preferences ❯ Printers and scanners then click the ‘+’ to add the new one

Download and install printer software (for more print options and scanner app): Search manufacturer’s website for the printer e.g. ‘epson ET 4800’ then download and install the relevant software. (Windows PC’s don’t need different drivers as they now use a universal printer one). Test printer by printing an email or document

Scan to PC: Open the scan app on the computer, place the document on the scanner surface in the right place, check the document options are set correctly, click ‘Scan’ and open the file to see it

Scan to Mac: Open the scan app in System Settings ❯ Printers and scanners, place the document on the scanner surface in the right place, check the document options are set correctly, click ‘Scan’ and open the file to see it

Print a photo from a smartphone: Open the Photos app on the phone, choose a photo, tap ‘Print’ then select the printer and wait for the result

Advanced printer set up task e.g. connect via WiFi Direct: Google search for what this is and how to do it
