Chrome browser (desktop application)

How Chrome works with a Google Account: When Chrome is signed into with a Google Account, Google apps are automatically signed into (such as Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Photos, Maps, Search) and any passwords used to sign into website accounts are saved to the Google Account. See “Google Account introduction” in the Web and Internet knowledge area

Chrome basic use: Toolbar – starting from top left, ‘Page back’ (click to go back, hold to see history), ‘page forward’ (click to go forward, hold to see history), ‘reload this page’ buttons and address bar with ‘view site information’ padlock, then extension icons, profile icon, and the Bookmarks bar below (if showing)

Make Chrome your own: ‘Customise this page’ – Open a new Tab and click on the pencil icon in bottom right and choose what you want to see. See advanced personalisation in ‘Settings’ from ‘Customise and control Google Chrome’ options menu, then ‘Appearance’, ‘Search engine’, ‘On start-I116up’ and ‘Default browser’

Chrome advanced use: Click on the profile icon in the top right corner and explore the three icons: ‘Passwords’, ‘Payment methods’ and ‘Addresses and more’ (you do not need to be signed into Chrome to save passwords, credit cards and addresses to it). Open Chrome’s options menu ‘Customise and control Google Chrome’ and get to know ‘Incognito window’, ‘History’, ‘Bookmarks’, ‘Print’, ‘Find’ and more…

Bookmarks in Chrome: To organise go to Safari menu ❯ ‘Bookmarks’ ❯ ‘Bookmark manager’ or click on ‘Customise and control Google Chrome’ options icon on top right, click on ‘Bookmarks’ then choose ‘Bookmark this tab’ or ‘Bookmark manager’

Passwords – Google Password Manager: Store and retrieve safely in ‘Settings’ ❯ ‘Auto-fill’ ❯ ‘Passwords’. Or click the profile icon ❯ Passwords key icon

Print in Chrome: Go to File ❯ Print (or Cmd + P), select the printer then set the webpage printing options and click ‘Print’. (Click ‘Show Details’ if option menu is not showing)

Chrome extensions: simple tools that put useful features onto your browser. e.g. Save money with ‘Keepa – Amazon Price Tracker’ or ‘Pouch’ which finds the best discount code to enter in the promotional box on the checkout webpage.

Chrome sign in and sync: Sign into Chrome with your Google Account and turn on sync by clicking on the profile icon in the top right corner. This saves the info that is stored in Chrome to your account, so if you change devices (for example, if you lose your phone or replace your main computer), you will get your synced info back when you sign into Chrome on a new computer.

Manage sync in Chrome: Click on the profile icon then click ‘Sync is on’ and review ‘Sync and Google services’ ❯ ‘Manage what you sync’ and select what you want to sync. Click ‘Review your synced data’ to see how many bookmarks, passwords etc. are stored

Privacy in Chrome: Clear cookies – Open ‘Settings’ from ‘Customise and control Google Chrome’ options menu. ‘Settings’ ❯ ‘Privacy and Security’ ❯ ‘Clear browsing data’ ❯ ‘Cookies and other site data’
