Preparation is essential: As this is a device you will use every day, there is a lot involved. Even with a direct sync to the current phone/tablet, the new device lock (PIN, password or pattern plus fingerprint) must be added, and most apps on the new device will need to be signed into (Google Password Manager autofill makes this easier if set up).
