View Photos: Tap on ‘Photos’ in tab bar. Pinch in or out for larger or smaller squares of photo files. Swipe to show scroll button then drag it to the year you want and release. Tap on a photo to open it

Edit photos: Open a photo then tap Edit on the bottom tool bar to reveal two tool bars. Swipe right to see options – try Tools then Magic Eraser to remove distractions (only available with Google One when paying for more than 15G of free cloud storage). Tap ‘Done’ then ‘Save copy’ or just tap ‘Save’ depending on the action
Delete photos and video files: Either tap to open a single photo file and tap ‘Delete’, or touch and hold to reveal the select circle (top left of the photo) then tap anywhere on each small photo to select the ones you want, then tap Delete. Tip – tap on the select circle next to the date to select all for that date
View videos: Tap ‘Search’ in tab bar and swipe down to ‘Videos’ then tap to open and play the video file
Edit videos (only available on phone app): Open a video then tap Edit on the bottom tool bar to reveal the video timeline and two tool bars below. In ‘Video’ touch and hold then slide the white start and stop lines to adjust the length of the video. When finished tap ‘Save copy’
Share individual photo and video files: Tap on a photo or video file to open it then tap the share symbol and choose how you want to share it
Sharing: Tap ‘Sharing’ in tab bar and look at ‘Albums and memories’ and ‘Conversations’. Scroll to the end of an album to see comments and reply
Search Photos: Tap ‘Search’ in tab bar and tap in any word – try ‘beach’ and see all photos taken of beaches. Swipe down to look at ‘People and pets’ and ‘Places’ and other options
Library: Tap ‘Library’ in tab bar and in ‘Photos on device’ tap on an individual storage area e.g. WhatsApp Images and decide if you want to ‘Backup’ to Google Photos. If you do turn Backup ON. See ‘Albums’ and tap on one to open. Photos that are removed from an album are not deleted from Google Photos
